Whilst many in Cornwall will be going to the polls on Thursday 1st May 2025, in Marazion the number of people who submitted election nomination papers to Cornwall Council happened to be the same number of town council seats vacant. This means that the election is uncontested and all those who submitted election nomination papers will be your town councillors until the next Cornwall County, Town and Parish Elections in four years time.
If there had been more election nominated papers than vacant seats then there would have been a contested election.
May 6th 2025, is the official date for the change of council. New councillors take their seats.
All councillors are require to formally accept the position of a town council and this is called the Declaration of Acceptance. Councillors cannot vote until the Declaration of Acceptance has been signed and witnessed by the Town Clerk.
Added to which each town councillor must legally complete a Declaration of Interests. Each town councillor has no less than 28 days to do so and throughout their tenure as a town council, they must keep their Declaration of Interest up to date.
