In September 2024, Marazion Town Council received amazing news that a grant application for £140,000 submitted to Cornwall Council under the Community Levelling Up Programme was successful for the refurbishment of the Maypole Gardens.

This project, totalling £160,000 is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

For full details of the refurbishment and plan click on the links below:

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills. For more information visit :

Once the hard landscaping is complete, then planting will take place afterwards.  The soft landscaping will be a separate project and funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. More details to follow.

The town council continues to collect views and opinions of residents and visitors.  The information we garner will help to continue shape the future use of the Maypole Gardens as a public open gardens and performance space.  We do have a questionnaire, link below which are encouraging everyone to complete.

Hard copies are also available locally in shops, Marazion GP Surgery, Marazion Community Centre, Town Hall (Monday and Thursday 8.00am – 2.00pm).

And finally, Cllr John Nicholas, the Mayor of Marazion and Marazion town councillors wish to say ‘thank you’ to all those who have supported this application.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, a legacy project to revitalise these gardens at the heart of Marazion.
